Update: New export legislation for organic goods to commence from 28 March 2021

The Organic Exports Program has published an Industry Advice Notice on the commencement of the new export legislation on 28 March 2021 (IAN 2021/01).

From 3am (AEDT) on 28 March 2021, the Export Control Act 2020 and the Export Control (Organic Goods) Rules 2021 (the Organic Goods Rules), will replace the Export Control Act 1982 and the Export Control (Organic Produce Certification) Orders.

The Organic Goods Rules maintain the level of, and approach to, regulatory control and oversight in the Export Control (Organic Produce Certification) Orders and other existing regulations under the Export Control Act 1982. The Organic Goods Rules also provide additional clarification on organic export requirements while bringing consistency across export arrangements.
