Australian Organic Limited to Build National First Organic Verification Platform

Australian Organic Limited has been selected for funding under Round 4 of the Australian Government’s Traceability Grants Program to build Australia’s first national platform for organic certification verification.

The project, The National Organic Traceability and Data Infrastructure Platform, will make it easier for consumers, businesses, regulators, and international trading partners to check whether a business or product is certified organic. The platform will support faster status checks, certification expiry alerts, and strengthen traceability across Australia’s organic supply chains.

Australian Organic Limited Chief Executive Officer Jackie Brian said the project would help close a practical gap in Australia’s organic framework.

“Organic certification is the foundation of trust in our sector, but that trust depends on information being easy to check, both for consumers at point of sale but also for businesses with increasingly complex supply chains” Ms Brian said.

“At the moment, certification records exist, but the process for checking and using that information can be more manual than it needs to be.

“This project is about making organic verification faster, clearer and more useful across the supply chain.

“It will help certified operators, processors, retailers, buyers, and even regulators to confirm organic status with greater confidence, while supporting stronger traceability for Australian organic products.”

Ms Brian said the project also aligned with broader national efforts to improve agricultural traceability.

“Traceability is no longer just about product moving from one point to another. It is increasingly about being able to verify the claims attached to that product to validate them as credentials,” she said.

“For organics, that means giving businesses and consumers better tools to confirm that organic claims are backed by valid certification.

“The Traceability Grants Program is about supporting collaborative projects that improve traceability for Australian agricultural industries and consumers, including through better use of data, interoperable systems, and education across supply chains.

“We at AOL and the broader organic industry are delighted to be a part of this initiative”.

This is the start of a two-year project (July 2026 – June 2028). We’ll build the national data standards and verification directory first, then roll out education & guidance to support adoption. Industry will be closely engaged and consulted, and we’ll share what that involves closer to the time.
