PASE funding grape news for hort growers

Australian Table Grape Association awarded grants to boost export market access for a range of horticulture crops.

Package Assisting Small Exporters (PASE) program funding will go towards mobile application development and accreditation system enhancements.

The Australian Table Grape Association has been awarded more than $600,000 in Australian Government funding for two projects aimed at improving market access for its growers.

Agriculture Minister David Littleproud said the funding through the Package Assisting Small Exporters (PASE) program extension aimed to provide long term benefits to producers and existing exporters, while also opening up new market access opportunities.

“Table grapes industry has led the way and now it is passing on that experience to promote the development of a range of horticulture exports,” Minister Littleproud said.

“Two grants have been provided to the Australian Table Grape Association, one to develop mobile applications to assist with managing chemical residues for each of the avocado, apple and pear, vegetables, berries, mango, melon and summer fruit industries.

“The other grant will look at improving the capabilities of the industry sector’s current Export Accreditation System which streamlines the export registration process.

“Improving the accreditation system will minimise disruptions to markets resulting in greater participation in export markets and an increase in Australian horticultural exports.

“Additional reporting metrics will also provide industry bodies with the confidence to forecast export numbers and negotiate access to new markets.

“Projects such as these will not only save producers time and money but help ensure Australia continues to build on its reputation as a reliable supplier of clean, safe, quality produce.

“It’s just another example of the Australian Government providing practical help to drive real export returns for our nation’s economy.”
