The day will start at Country Heritage Feeds with an introduction to the Australian Organic Market Report 2021 and opportunities within the organic industry from AOL Technical Officer Josefine Pettersson. This will be followed by a lecture from Farm Agronomy’s Jess Bailey on soil health and grain profitability. Converting to organics is more than just ceasing synthetic pesticide use, join to learn more about how to change your production systems to maintain yield whilst ceasing artificial inputs. Ron Phillips will then provide a tour of Country Heritage Feeds and discuss value-adding grain products through animal feed. Country Heritage Feeds is the largest processor of organic animal feed in Australia! Lunch will thereafter be provided by Country Heritage Feeds before participants will make their way to Karana Organics near Dalby.
Karana Organics is a 571-hectare mixed cropping and livestock property near Dalby. It is owned by Graham Back and has been in the family for multiple generations. He still uses many techniques instilled in him from his grandfather, before pesticides were an option for farmers. Philip Burrell from the Department of Primary Industries will be talking about organic grain storage techniques. Learn how to preserve your grain during the current wet period after a prolonged drought. Graham Back will then provide a tour of Karana Organics before the day event concludes at 4:30pm. Networking and drinks will then be held from 5pm onwards at the Criterion Hotel in Dalby.
All tours and presentations are interactive and questions are encouraged throughout the day. We invite all participants to Dalby for networking drinks to further discuss the day’s events and collaborations.
