“Keen-wa” the superfood we can’t get enough of

When it comes to superfoods, Australian Certified Organic certifies A LOT of them! From acai berry powder, coconut derived products, spirulina, chia seeds to quinoa – just to name a few! We say that for a food to be super it must also be organic.

The great thing is that certified organic superfoods are so easy to find, particularly thanks to brands like macro making them continuously available at your local Woolworths.

Macro organic quinoaSo, have you tried macro organic quinoa yet?

This nutritious grain-like seed is popping up everywhere, and for good reason. It’s perfect in a wide range of dishes from salads, porridge and risottos to cereals, cakes and more.  It’s quick and easy to prepare and very nutritious.

Quinoa (pronounced “keen-wa”) is rich in protein and contains all nine essential amino acids. It’s also gluten-free, with more than twice the fibre of white rice.

If you take a walk down the health food aisle at Woolworths you will find the Macro quinoa range, which includes tricolour and white quinoa and quinoa flakes (great for making delicious gluten free porridge).

Where is macro organic quinoa grown?

Macro organic quinoa is produced in Bolivia on local family farms. Quinoa grown in this area has a unique and much loved feature… it’s a larger seed compared to other varieties and therefore cooks up to be fluffier, less mushy and less sticky.

Bolivian quinoa’s fabulous properties are a result of the unique Altiplano region where it is grown.  The Altiplano is a dry, arid place 13,000 feet above sea level with mineral rice soil, which provides a unique environment where this unusual ancient seed simply thrives!

What we find amazing about food trends, is the positive impact they can have on growers and their families around the world.  The rise in popularity of Bolivian quinoa has allowed these producers to earn a better living and afford more basic necessities, like health, good nutrition and education.

Not only will it be a fun and nutritious food to add the grocery list, but your purchase will also mean you’re supporting farmer’s rights, looking after the environment and the biodiversity of our eco system and avoiding synthetic pesticides, herbicides and fungicides.

A win-win for all don’t you think?
