Meet the newest team member of Australian Organic Annabelle Bushell. She will help drive the organic industry by supporting producers to switch to Australian Certified Organic and connect into markets in her role as industry development officer.
Annabelle has spent over 10 years working with producers in land and natural resource management in Western Australia. More recently she studied gastronomic science in Italy. She’s passionate about the food, land and culture of regional communities and has also been involved in Slow Food Australia.
Annabelle says, “I have a strong interest in combining these experiences and integrating the management of our natural resources and agricultural productivity, as well as the conservation and social sustainability of Australia.
“Combining these elements is key to building resilient, strong and self-sustaining regional communities.”
The industry development officer role with Australian Organic is made possible thanks to funding from Horticulture Innovation Australia (formerly Horticulture Australia Ltd, HAL).
As the industry development officer with Australian Organic Annabelle will work with producers to develop opportunities that address barriers to organic production, help them to connect into the organic supply chain and find opportunities for businesses certified with Australian Certified Organic to increase their profitability and sustainability. She will be particularly focused on the certified organic horticulture industry.
Annabelle will be holding workshops and attending events around the country. She will be speaking at the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo in February about being certified organic.
