Australia’s Largest Organic Body Announces New CEO

Australian Organic has appointed Paul Stadhams to the position of CEO.

Paul has a background in the agriculture and food processing sectors and was most recently a state administration and operations manager with national fresh produce wholesaler Moraitis.

Australian Organic owns the most recognised organic logo in the country, Australian Certified Organic, which is identified by the Bud symbol and appears on the majority of certified organic products in Australia.

Chair of Australian Organic Dr Andrew Monk says Paul’s appointment heralds a new era for the company. He says, “Paul’s experience with one of the country’s largest wholesalers has given him valuable experience with supply chains from producers to retailers and he has brilliant team leadership skills.”

IBISWorld found organics is one of Australia’s top five growth industries in 2013. The Australian Organic Market Report 2012, commissioned by Australian Organic and co funded by Horticulture Australia Ltd, confirms organics is worth $1.27 billion to Australia and is predicted to grow by 15% each year.

Paul says he is excited to be a part of this growth and takes up the position of CEO with eagerness to further increase the profile of organics.

He says, “I think organics has a really strong future. The industry has only just scratched the surface of its potential.

“Organics is more than being free of synthetic chemicals and better for the environment, it also encapsulates attributes promoted by different logos.

“It’s cage free, hormone free, GM free, cruelty free, grass fed etc. I don’t think this is well known amongst consumers which is why I think Australian Organic still has such significant potential.”

Australian Organic began 25 years ago as Biological Farmers of Australia. In 2012 the not for profit group changed its name to reflect its core business of promoting and educating about organics.

Paul says, “I’m proud to join such a highly respected Australian company. Australian Certified Organic’s integrity has earned it one of the best reputations worldwide.”
