Organic is more than food and to bang the drum about other products, we’re running Australian Organic Awareness Month in October.
Ambassador and celebrity chef Pete Evans fronts the campaign, which profiles garden and farm inputs, beverages, skincare and food. Australian Certified Organic (ACO) recently announced an equivalency agreement with Switzerland, an addition to the many other countries that ACO certified exporters have easy access to, giving clients access to more markets than any other organic certifying group in Australia. Early research data compiled for the Australian Organic Market Report 2014, due to be released in November, also reveals a dramatic increase in the number of shoppers who recognise the ACO logo over any other certified organic logo in the marketplace. With an ongoing commitment to promote this logo through mass media campaigns each year, why would you go anywhere else for certification?
Australian Organic invites Victorian members to a dinner in Melbourne on September 18. The last dinner we held in Melbourne was lots of fun and incredibly successful, giving diners a chance to catch up with other people in the business of organics. Members will receive an invitation via email telling you more.
Speaking of events, members of Australian Organic are also invited to mark Friday 14 November in their diaries. That’s the date of our AGM, tour and dinner – this year in South Australia. The tours are always a great chance to go behind the scenes of some of ACO’s most successful clients. This year it features popular wines brands. We look forward to telling you more.
Membership to Australian Organic is only $121 a year, a small fee considering it gives you access to these sorts of great networking events.
A reminder to ACO clients that July signalled the introduction of the industry development levy, which replaces the promotional contribution scheme. The change introduces a fairer system and reduces fees for most clients. By now you will have been notified about the levy rate that applies to your business. If you pay the full annual fee by the end of August you receive a 10% discount. You can view the levy schedule here. These changes don’t affect the base rate of certification.
The Australian Organic Onboarding Program is in full swing. It helps existing and new producers be certified organic and profitable. It’s also pragmatic and sensible – helping the industry grow sustainably so supply and demand are well balanced.
